Welcome to our family – a family of 48 children who have all faced the same reality, watching their parents die and living with the virus that killed them.

In 2006, our family begins with Roja and Mahesh, two of the millions of orphans surviving the pandemic spreading across India. In that hour a dream was born – create a space for children living with HIV/AIDS. With no parents and a government unwilling to take in HIV-positive kids, the need was urgent.

Three years into the journey our vision is a home filled with 48 kinds of laughter, 48 distinct personalities, talents, sets of skills and a sincere understanding of what it means to love without reservation. We are a family, a collective bound by a common thread – HIV/AIDS.

The virus is not the story. The story lies within the walls of our home where every child is, fed, given the meds keeping them healthy and alive, educated, loved by four house parents and each other, allowed to be kids, play cricket, football and run around in the rain during a heavy monsoon downpour – just like every other child.

Caring for 48 orphans costs money. Caring for children who are HIV-positive requires an extra measure of care, long-term planning and consistent access to life saving drugs.

Why should we care? What is our goal?
Not one of our children will pass on the virus to someone else. Our children will become ambassadors to their communities, educating the rural masses about HIV/AIDS and in time, slow and ultimately end the cycle of transmission.
